    Recovery points on a Defender?

    Greetings,

I'm interested to hear what options are available for recovery points on a Defender? The best I've seen is a Jate Ring made by Troutbeck Sales in Melbourne. Anybody using them?

I also like the idea of a centre pull recovery hitch that just slides into the towbar for recovery. Seems a hell of allot easier than accessing a point on the chassis.

in case you guys were wondering ... yes ... I'm guilty of recovering on the lashing eyes ops: ... and realise the danger so I would like to get that sorted before my next trip.

    Cheers,
    Henry.

    Hi Henry

There was some discussion on this not so long ago. Have a read through this thread:

I too have used the Troutbeck JATE rings in the past and they seem like a good solution to the problem. The only drawback seems to be the fact that when you are stuck in the sand or mud, you'll need to start digging to find your recovery points. Other than that, they work well.

Most of the people I go out with have a hook mounted in the reciever of the towbar for the rear, works a treat.

For the front, I have seen a couple of configurations, but as to which is best is open to opinion. I've seen jate rings, loops, hooks and everything between.

Had these fitted to the Fender, nice and cheap and strong
but bury themselves in the mud, also the spring retainers
rust and are pretty much useless after awhile.
