I think it is.
With the intake out from under the bonnet and up high you suck in cleaner air and colder air so your filter lasts longer.
I have also noticed a slight improvent in economy since fitting mine.
I am looking at putting a snorkel on the V8, My question goes to all V8 owners with one,
Is it worth it :?:

Might find that there is a slighjt Ram Air effect - that could be part and parcel of the snorkel. also clean cold air burns better
mick
I have a 300 TDi
I have one, and before I fitted it, I was forever cleaning my filter, even hiway driving
I would have one just to keep the filter clean.
Yup
Well worth the money.
There are two types of people in this world, good and bad. The good sleep better, but the bad seem to enjoy the waking hours
With out doing the maths and in a nut shell I would like to bury the myth of "ram" effect from a snorkel(no offence to landrovermick).
With all things being equal and ignoring the "elastic" effect on a column of air being dragged down a bore as a piston rips down the bore (inlet valve open)at umpteem feet per second at say a modest 2000rpm multiplied by 4 cylinders, roughly represents a column of air moving down the inlet track in the order of 200+kpa, as the add say" how fast are you going now " go figure.
Benefits of a snorkel as most blokes have suggested, clean cool air, relative to under bonnet temperature(cooler air is denser air = cleaner combustion, may also translate to marginal performance/fuel economy benefits) other benefits, a real plus when driving in sand, longer filter life, lack of "H2O" in the engine(cooling system permitted)etc.
The real reason we all fit one , it`s a flag to all other forby drivers that we are "serious" about our forby driving.

I do nothing to flag anything to anyone ( i dont give a rats arse about the chardonnay quiffing , herbal tea sippling Latte drinking snobs out there) - I use my vehicle as I want with no care about what anyone thinks - its not an image for me - more a life style.
What you say about cool denser air is true -
in relation to ram air.... i got nothing
but i would think that air going down a snorkel and into the air filter would be assisted in its path by the "how fast are you going now figure"
anyhow joatt - no problem no offence taken mate

my 2 cents is
yes,
go for it,,

Bourbon, Beer and Black tea thats the go mate, don't let those Chardy pussies **** you about tell em what you really think. :x
The fact still stands you get no nett "ram effect" gain other than those outlined.
pass an other beer please mate................. 8O

Well seeing we are debating the value of Snorkles, does anyone here run one with a duel fuel truck?
