Thanks Mick, some useful advice there. It's an area that's largely ignored by the majority I believe.
But I think that if you are at fault, and have illegal tyres, then the insurance company *may* refuse some or part of the claim. It wouldn't be an automatic refusal. Problem is, if it's a major claim then they're more likely to look for a way out.
So if I understand correctly, you're saying that the stuff I posted from the VicRoads website may be overriden by the tyre placard anyway?
Which would probably mean that any mud terrain tyres are illegal, as I don't think any of them would measure up in terms of speed rating? If so, then apart from all the illegal vehicles on the road, it would mean the tyre industry is guilty of knowingly supplying and fitting illegal tyres.
