The nuts are the same for Discos & Defenders. The studs however, are slightly different. You will find that the Defender studs are a little short with Disco wheels in place. Instead of the end of the stud being flush with the face of the nut when fitted, the stud will be a couple of mm inset. This is because the Disco wheel is slightly thicker on the mounting face than your old Defender wheels. It's not a problem though - there's still plenty of thread engagement to be safe.

You can see how the studs are slightly below the back face of the nuts.

Yes, I can.
With my current wheels the studs actually sit a few mm proud of the nuts - so overall quite a difference. Still there does, as you say, appear to be enough contact to ensure the wheels remain safely attached to the vehicle !
Now if only the bloody powdercoaters would ring....
The proper name for this style of wheel nut is "lug nut" and if you take one in to a fastener mob they should be able to get hold of them. Unlikely they'd be in stock but should be able to order in. Maybe even in stainless!
Alternatively, get long series nuts (double the thickness of standard nuts) and turn them down to suit. There is nothing exceptional about a wheel nut.
Nothing exceptional except the angle of the taper on the nut must be corrct
Mick
I got mine from a landy after market mob in Melbourne called "the toorak tractor company" for aobut $5 ea.
I'm sure there are mobs like that in your corner of the planet.
For thoese not familier to Melbourne Toorak is a posh suburb where nice shiney 4WD's that never see mud live. (except from the horses)
This is correct, I've just had to replace a stud on my Defender front wheel, and was given a Range Rover stud which is same as Defender and still a tad short but not a worry. The stud and a couple of nuts was $10. In all the years of vehicle ownership I've never broken a stud. Obviously too much torque too many times with wheels changes, but no indication until rego time mechanic found and knocked me back, but quick fix about 1/2 hour.Quote:

Mine have been on now for 6 years, and have managed one bad dent and one not so. The bad one was a very ordinary day out (no rock steps). Possible river crossing but if so at the slower pace very touchy then.Quote:

The dents banged out alright and balanced up OK, the big dents on the spare now :!: Will eventually get fixed and whole set resprayed again white, getting a little knocked around but wouldn't change them.
Are they washers behind the tapered nuts, mine do not have that much depth difference, maybe a couple of threads.
