Oil leaks and also radiator hoses....
I know all Land Rovers leak some kind of fluid (so we know there is still some in the car) but mine is leaking, well dripping, well maybe seeping occasionally oil though the engine sump bolt ! Why would it be doing that ? Would replacing the bolt and/or washer maybe fix that problem ? It isn't that bad of a problem, like it doesn't drop any oil on the driveway, more a matter of interest as to why it is doing it !!!
On another topic, is it a good idea to replace the thermostat at the sometime as the radiator hoses ? car has done 130,000kms now...
Thanks
Matt

"Modified" sump bolts were issued for this problem on V8s with the cross bolted mains. Being Land Rover, I suppose oil can leak from here on the earlier engines too 8O . It's just normal bolts with sealant on the threads. Only 4 bolts were replaced as part of the "mod".
If the heater works OK & the engine temperature is OK, then the thermostat should be OK to leave as is. Personally I'd replace it if doing all the hoses though. I'd advise against a genuine thermostat - I've had ones stick closed until 105 deg & others that stay open (all less than 6 mths old, sometimes from new
). Go CPC or similar.

Would putting some locktight on the sump bolt be a bad idea, or is there something else you can put on the sump bolt to stop it seeping ?

Loctite's fine. I think they make a thread sealer for this purpose. Failing that use a weak threadlock. Thread tape will also work if that's handy.

You can get a Loctite that is called Hydralic sealing compund, this doesn't lock the threads. Or you could put fibre or copper washers under the bolts.
