Maybe I'm just lucky (touch wood) but three Land Rovers later (that have been on tour) and over a million km's (some of those in miles if that counts) and I have never had in a wading plug.......ever :!:
All three landies been to Cape York (before they bridged the Wenlock, theres plenty of other water up there, including the Jardine) and 300 river crossings on weekend trips etc etc. Most only short bursts across 30 metre crossings, but occassionaly downstreams jaunts of 3/4 km on one trip.
If you wade without plugs do not change gear in water.
The first two cars I did not know they had wading plugs so that lets me off for those, so I'll cop the flack for the Defender 150,000 +...... 8)
Oh yeh, I just rembered the Aboriginal Land Council on Cape York blew up the Jardine Crossing so you have to pay the $88 ferry crossing fee

Sounds like a prime example of capitolism at work for the good of the community!

Capitolism at its worst for me, but if you want to go you've got to pay. I'd rather go to the tribes of the south they only charge $15 return for Bruney Island.Quote:

The ferry to Thursday Island is only about $65 return and includes a bus trip around the little island, the ferry takes about 40 minutes I think. You can throw rocks from one side to the other across the Jardine at the ferry.
Any way I've been three time won't got to the tip again, will spend more time at Iron Range NP, and at Vrilya Point (26km south of the Jardine crossing) could spend a lifetime there, fresh water pours out of the ground through the sand great spot to veg out for a week. i was being faecious....
never done the cape by vehicle but i have been round the cape from kurumba and beyond to brisbane at 10 knots an hour in an old "w class" north sea tug. 110 foot of thumping banging vibrating (not to mention leaking) paint and rust pushed along by a 14 foot prop and a National 6 cyl diesel engine that you lubed with a large oil can every 30 mins
you havent lived till you have surfed down a >20m wave in a following sea in one of these.... with that dam oil can in your hand...
truly amazing scenery on the cape and wending thru the reef tho.....
my favourite spot, Albany Isle, right at the tip.
truly magic stuff...
So it was a Landie :!: Quote:
