Now I am a bit confused, had a great conversation witha guy at the Land Rovers Owner Club at their show last week in Pentrith and he said I needed breather pipes up from the diffs to a high point inside the vehicle. I have a brand new defender 110 extreme. Its a diesel 5 cylinder and so far have seen postings about 110's, TD5's and Extremes all saying differnt things about plugs. I thought that I had a Defender TD5 110 Extreme...obviously a few product or name changes. So just for me, do I need plugs/breathers? Cheers

Hi John
I have a Xtreme TD5.
Regarding breathers, have a look see, at the back of the block, there's a heap ( 4 or 5 ) thin pastic tubes with a 180° bend at the top. (factory installed)
I think these come from the bell housing, gearbox, T/case, diff etc to be approx level with the top of the motor.
The rear diff breather doesnt go so high, mine finishes just up and under the rear guard (Passenger side). I'v seen these extended up inside the back near the rear door.
Diff plugs ? I'm still not sure, lots of different stories, some say one and others say three ?.
