If any dual fuel vehicle isn't run on petrol briefly at least once a week the injectors will foul up.Learnt this the hard way![]()
My 87 rangie which has what I believe a 90 model 3.9 injected engine in it will run on gas but when switched to fuel coughs and splutters before stalling itself. I dumped some injector cleaner and fuel conditioner in it and it seemed to have helped as it will rev but once you let off it dies.
I'm ditching the gas soon and want to see where to start checking before pulling the engine open to change the injectors but should and will do that either way.
Any ideas or fixes

Yeah I know this but don't think previous owner did
Ancient petrol won't run well. fresh fuel is essential.
The fuel pump may be stuffed, do a pressure test.
The MAF may be stuffed from a backfire.
The injectors should fire each time you start the engine, this keeps them alive longer. If they have had no petrol at all for 6 months or longer they will be stuck closed. It's probably easier to find a set of second hand injectors off a non gas engine.
I put fresh 95 in it and an octane booster plus conditioner and an injector cleaner
How do you do a pressure test as it pumps out when I disconnect it from the filter
Will get a second hand maf to test
Will also get a set of second hand or refurb injectors but which ones as I remember you saying 90 model commondore or ford. Otherwise will contact a land rover wrecker
Just priced new ones for $140 each or cleaning them for $400.
Fuel pump pressure is checked by using a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel pressure test fitting on the fuel rail at the inlet manifold. If in doubt seek a mechanic with a proper pressure gauge to test it for you.
Injectors lurk in the sheds of anyone who's wrecked a Disco or RRC, put up a wanted notice on the forum if you need some.
Just rip it out and put a ford v8 in it
I could pro banal get one cheap too hmmm.
