Thread: Auto trannie noise

there are a couple of causes that spring to mind, and my mind is heavily sedated at present so i could be a mile of the mark...
rear aframe ball joint
driveline wear including uni's etc, or transfer case.
get someone with a little nouse to have a listen under the truck while you change gear.
try moving tail shafts by hand and see if you can feel or see excessive movement.
check oil levels and replace if you dont know when last serviced.

The noise is coming from the transfer case.
A metalic noise when going from reverse to drive and back again.
Anyone else experinced anything like this?
If so is it a major concern?

Next question is does it do that noise if you let it trickle down a hill then boot the throttle hard ? Sounds like it might be slack between the gearset.

My overdrive does that "clunk" as the slack takes up between the gears on shifts. I'm aware of what's going on so just live with it and try not to shock load it too often to make sure it lasts. 8)

A dismantle next weekend might show you more clues.

I have the same problem in my D2 01, i just had a service on gearbox all fine there, replaced the front propshaft coz a uni was gone n mechanic couldn’t press new one in.. (is that normal). Also have a lot of play in drive train

The cluck is when changing up (not to bad) changing down (real bad in higher gears 3,4) and big time when u apply throttle after coasting without throttle.

after you strain the feathers and mince out of the oil...

how much oils in the tcase and what type is it?
