Aluminium irrigation pipe and truck radiator hose would be the shot.

Plastic tends to go soft under the hood in my experience unless it's a long way from any heat source.

Should be able to make one for less than $140 if using 3in pipe and new stuff.

Heaps cheaper than ARB for a Sarfari at $629 fitted.
Not sure on how much AirTec are, wouldn't be far from that though.

I have had a quick look and Alloy pipe sounds great...
I might try Stainless pipe and have it bent at the right places.
I'll try to source a safari head.

The camel trophy ones ran along the inside of the guard to the screen then came out of the guard, that is what i would like to do.

If i pop it out of the guard at the front like Safari do then i'll have a big pipe running up the guard.

3" is an overkill as the turbo hoses are only 2". I'll look into it anyhow.

I might just have to spend that $400 to get a safari one.

If you use stainless and get it bent, cost will probably be a great deal more. Just thought radiator hose would give you the 90º bends you'll need and would allow some give if it recieved an impact rather than break.

The other thing about using bits is if a section gets damaged, just need to replace that section rather than the whole thing.

Wouldn't think three inch was overkill, big air volume at a low velocity. Smaller pipe tends to increase turbulence causing air volume to decrease. Turbulence acts as drag making the pipe less efficient by restricting air flow.

I've looked at the mantec ones.
I might copy one of them.
As mine is a TDI 3" is huge and im not keen on having a drain pipe running down my piller.....lol i might have a rat climb out...

I made one for less than $90 to suit a series 3 with a holden 186...Different i know, but exactly the same principal.

i used 2 lenghts of 3inch exhaustpipe, and two 30 degree mandrel bends from an exaust pipe.

I then cut a hole through the TOP of the guard right where it joins the fire wall, and routed the 3 inch rubber flexi pipe under the brake servo.

The air ram from a Truck spares join was about $30 bucks.

I think i'll try to copy the mantec ones.. make it a camel trophy copy.

I will look at the truck wreckers for the top scoop.

I agree. I've always disliked the big slab of black plastic running along the guard of the Safari types ( as well as the cost) and liked the looks of the polished pipe types in the UK mags. But the Mantec, etc. are too exe to import, so you could be onto something here.
