It's safe to drive as long as you have the strength; it will get lighter with speed (oh, it's a County.... no such thing as speed )
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Find the leak, mine spat out the circlip and seals[drop arm shaft] doing a tight turn at full lock in a cul de sac, and dumped all fluid with in 50m, i had a heavy trailer for work that i had to back around and then drive 60ks home in the rain-it was a good work out, put a minor seal kit through it[which includes the circlip] when i got home and has been good so far for 10,000 ks, was a bit worried that the pump would **** as it ran dry but all is good so far

Pump up your front tyres to 40 PSI for the trip, that will help. I'm fairly sure it is a Range Rover pump with a different pulley, so maybe a wrecker has one available & just swap the pump. JC on this forum is highly recommended by Taswegians, but he is the other end of the island.
