Just a thought, but was the vehicle originally fitted with the Isuzu.
The reason I ask is because in the 4speed configuration the transfer box gearing is different between the petrol and diesel.
Overal gearing for diesel is 3.97:1 whilst the petrol is 4.73:1.
I've got an Isuzu Stage1 and it pulls strong past 100 no worries.
My engine does however fall over past 3000rpm ( max output rated at 3200rpm.)
Given the ratios with 7.50/16 tyres 3000rpm equates to 105kph with diesel gearing and 88kph.
This fits your description.
Then again could be the fuel filter

No offence hellspawn but in all the years that I've been a diesel mechanic I've never heard of injector pumps having a 'memory'

Have to agree with the running in advice. After a few decades of racing motorcycles. The best the engines got as a run in, was a couple of laps to make sure nothing was loose then full noise for another couple, stop make sure nothing had worked loose. Then onto the stops from there on.
Mind you we rebuilt the motors a couple of times each season.

the CEM value pack arrived to day the fuel additive and the oil treatment.
both are liquids with nothing in suspension (so it cant be like ajax)
i will start adding the fuel treatment soon as i get a chance.
the initial oil treatment gets done on a hot engine for about half an hour to an hour before an oil change. so i have to wait for a couple of weeks at least.

incisor,
Let me know how it works- it might just be the trick I need. Like I wrote- "I have READ it is like AJAX" so it just goes to show I shouldn't believe everything I read. Cheers,

Hi Larns
If possible I would also appreciate a copy of the tuning info.
I'm about to get the old girl back on the road from a bit of a freshen up and might give it a go.
Cheers

No probs, I just have to figure out how this scanner thing works first 8O
I was fiddling with it for over an hour last night with no avail.
I love hearing bout all these 4BDI's, I'm putting one in my D90 project I love them so much.
Cheers Guys

Careful. I've heard the 4BD1 doesn't match well with the R380 gearbox. The vibration from the 4BD1 does terrible things to the front bearing. If your keen on the Isuzu you should also consider a 4HF Isuzu, 4 cyl 4.2lt 85kw of power. More power for about the same money, and a more modern motor.
