Yea I herd that when I was researching L/R G/boxs, that's why I'm gonna go with the Santana option, and do the mod on the T/case input gear, apparently that's the solution to the output splines packing it in.
Other than that I havn't heard anynone really complaining about the LT85( anyone out there have any personal experiance with problem LT85's? ), an they were the factory 5spd behind the Isuzu.

I previously had the Isuzu/Santana combo. It had about 300k on it when I made the mistake of selling it. People say it will give out eventually. However, it sounds like most last a long time before a rebuild is necessary.

Larns,
I've got the LT85 in my county - when I got it there was some gearbox noise in 5th, which gradually got worse over the years. Eventually the gearbox packed it in (despite regular servicing and assurances from "experts"), and required a complete rebuild costing a few thousand.
The box is now whisper quiet and very smooth (as you would expect!). At the time of the rebuild I couldnt stretch the budget to the modded input bearing, I'll always regret that.
I wouldn't have the Isuzu without the 5 speed - its just too good on the open road. I've found the factory set up to be fantastic for touring, and obviously unbeatable off-road.
