    Development of OBD2 diagnostics Systems - Disco3 & Disco4

    Gday everybody.

My old man sold his 97 Toyota 80 series 4500 back in 2001. Being a 16yo lad at the time i distinctly remember the pain and embarrassment that came to me when Dad drove up the driveway in a bronze/gold colored 1997 Discovery 1 2.5 tdi.

Lets just say They've grown on me over the years.

Dad went on to own an s model, 2.7, 06 Discovery 3 and then 12 months ago traded up to a 2.7 my11 Discovery 4.

I've been contemplating a 4x4 purchase over the past 12 months and couldn't really go past a Land Rover for an unreal number of reasons.

Pardon me for the babbling intro, this is my first post on AULRO and i feel somewhat obliged to tell you some of my LR history.

The Discovery 3 and 4 are at this point my main vehicle of interest. My Dad has The 4 and i've just purchased a 2008 se 3.

Im an Aviation mechanical engineer and for the past 10 years have learned about countless amounts of mechanical structures and sytems and sub systems as well as materials & manufacture, electronics , communications, turbine and piston engine and the list goes on...

Now !! let me say that from my point of view, after working closely with the D3/D4 lately - they are a particularly Exciting vehicle to own and i think that anyone who owns one is a particularly smart individual. They are Futuristic. Wonderfully built and engineered with just the right amount of technology.

You guys wouldn't believe the offroad workout we give these cars out here in the way way out back... we dont do rock crawling and "flexing" for the camera (we could) but we like our 'off the map' exploratory missions throughout the rugged outback.

So i want to know, Who else is keeping a close eye on Gap Diagnostics and they're range of bluetooth 4.0 devices ?

    Bluetooth 4.0 (low power bluetooth)
exclusive to apple devices pretty much at this stage. ipads iphones.

Heres the IIDTool on Lucky8 website

Lucky8 Llc. - Take the road less traveled...

    Sitting pretty at $800 a piece. ??? Fair ?

You can get yourself an OBD2 bluetooth with Torque app combo from ebay for $50 or so, allowing you to check & clear fault codes along with some cool engine and system monitoring interfaces.

So why such a price difference you ask ?? its because the IIDTool has the ever so desirable EAS control - allowing owner/driver 3 additional preset height settings on top of the 3 that it has as standard. the IIDTool takes full control of your EAS ECU - auto saves your original factory presets for safety and lets you designate new height values to each individual corner of the vehicle... This married in with adjustable hight sensor linkages would be quite the impressive suspension system overall... whether your on 32" Mud terrains in the national parks, or your on 22 x 45mm pirelli p zeros dropping your kids off at Caulfield grammar every morning. all that wonderful capable adjustment at the poke of a touch screen.

I think LLams modd is a geat achievement and will suit many post 2005 discovery owners. for many folk, an additional 3 position turn dial switch, hard wired to the EAS ECU system is a tremendous advancement, Technologically and vehicle capability wise. full credit to davis performance.

Software development happens to be another keen interest of mine. Over the past 24 months learning to utilize Linux distribs and compile shell command software applications, flashing devices and manipulating the very core of modern software and autonomy systems.

So i look at the physical and essential difference between the IIDTool ($800) and the over abundant OBDii/Torque ($50) systems - both bluetooth. . .both tablet device application driven...

Is $800 a fair price to pay ?

I'd like to know what you all think please. And if anyones interested i would be prepared to pro-actively develop and Aussie made contender of the IIDTool for a fraction of the price.

    Thanks for your time.
i'm very impressed with the absolute plethora of knowledge within this group. Best Land Rover forum on the Internet in my opinion.

Will post pics of mine and my dads cars ASAP.

    Cheers. Joel

I'm pleased that you acknowledged the Llams product but to keep the record straight, its my product and it currently fits all LRs fitted with the V1 Terrain Response system. Davis Performance Landies is one of the resellers.

    Thumbs up

    Sincere apologies Graeme.

I misinterpreted some information and assumed that you owned and distributed from Davis performance Landies.

Correct me if i'm wrong, The V1 terrain response system has been present in the lr3's since launch in 2005 ? but not present on the base model. this model also had only 5 seats.

The LLams is a great bit of gear. I look forward to seeing other product from you in the future.

Its the version of air suspension fitted to all D3/D4 that have air suspension, RRS up to MY13 and RR Vogue MY07-MY12. V2 TR is fitted to RR Vogue MY13 and RRS MY14, for which I'm attempting to obtain the required connectors to allow non-invasive testing. Some base model D3s were optioned with air suspension.
