Thread: Problems with Fleetguard filters

I've just had a Fleetguard oil filter internally collapse on my Perkins T6354, it is one of 2 oil filters on this motor (in my Acco truck), the guts has disintegrated and is coming out the top, have informed manufacturer and they said to return it to the seller and they will get it to them. I used to use Fleetguard in all my trucks, don't know now though, suggest you contact Fleetguard, Regards Frank.

I've had issues with the ADBV's in both Fleetguard and Donaldson Z9 equivalent synthetic media (Microglass and Stratapore) filters for years, mostly they leak.

These particular filters aren't made by either company but an outside contractor, in this case Champion Labs in the US.

I keep using them as you can't beat their filtration and flow.

You'll find the LF3376 probably isn't made by Cummins/Fleetguard either, most of their small range isn't, it can come from anywhere.
Donaldson is the same, eg. most of their filters for Japanese and Euro diesels come out of a joint venture plant in Indonesia, pretty sure it's the same company that makes Sakura. (happy to be corrected on that one if it's incorrect)

The LF3376 is not the listed filter for the Z9.
Fleetguard list an LF3313 as the equivalent to the Z9. Many of the Ford guys here at work use these with no problem.

Other than height, the only difference is the BPV pressure on the LF3313 is 10psi and on the LF3376 it is 17.4 psi.

The LF3313 is a long/taller version of the LF689 and is used as a diff filter on Meritor axles in trucks.

Yeah the LF3376 is suppose to be the crossover for the Z89A, which should be the correct filter for the V8 disco.


My disco had the donut oil cooler adaptor, and with modified (bit bulkier) power steer hoses, makes a Z9 sized filter a tight squeeze to get on, hence using the Z89A/LF3376. There is running clearance once fitted, just a tight fit to get the thread lined up to start with.


I'm a bit dubious about using the LF3376 again now after this, and dubious about Ryco filters in general.

I gave up using fleetguard on my TD42 Patrol which has two upside down filters and hence relies heavily on the ADBV. Better results with Ryco but the latest pair havent been great either.

Just changed to a Fleetguard filter on my 4BD1 110 and the oil pressure light takes noticably longer to go out in comparision to the genuine Isuzu filter which was fitted previously (its a Perentie, hence also an upside down filter).

Fleetguard have a very good warranty system and will pay if something is damaged by their filters - I've seen them approve a $35K claim to rebuild a QSX15 after the air cleaner was found to be faulty and the brand new engine was dusted.

Having serviced 1000's of engines in my working life, and having used every type of filter on the market, I will only now only use Donaldson and Fleetgaurd if they make a filter for the job. Never seen any others that match both quality, performance and warranty.

Some of the filters customers have had me fit over the years in an attempt to save a few dollars are just plain scary. I've seen filters bow out on startup with the pressure of cold oil in them.

As Todd mentioned, it may be the wrong filter for the application.
