Question Replacement of I-fob for Lock/Unlocking of Doors on a TDi Disco

    Gents,

In my ongoing pursuit to find a D1, I've come across one that is missing the "I-fob" that enables u to remotely unlock/lock the Doors. How would one go about finding a replacement "I-fob" or would u have to go aftermarket and get a whole new Central Locking System?

You'd probably have to go to a Land Rover dealer, unfortunately. The locking system is random each time it's reset. You can lock/unlock it with the key but that won't unlock the immobiliser. I was told they cost about $450 to replace. I guard mine like gold.

Fobs are not that hard to obtain - All 4X4 spares at Kotara down here in NSW regularly lists them on Ebay, plus the other LR specialists could supply. Other option is to buy from the UK, there are a couple of suppliers over there and the price can be half what you pay here - I just bought two from Advanced Keys and they came in at about $100 for the pair.
Issue then is getting them synchronised to your car, dealers can do it or if you know someone with a Nanocom, Hawkeye or similar with codes for the D1 they can do it. I had mine done by a LR specialist locally for $50 for the two. If you buy from an LR specialist they'll probably synch it for free (British 4WD in Tassie were offering that if you went to their shop)

    Cheers

What does that mean ?? The Person that has the car is still driving it around normally w/o the I-fob & just locks the vehicle using the key in the drivers Door.... Does that mean the Immobiliser is still "In-Active" then, even though the car is off and doors locked?

So, if I could get one then, I could take it to a LR specialist up here in Brisbane (ie MR Automotive or British Offroad) and they could 'Re-synch' the New I-Fob to the car then ??

I currently don't know anyone with a Nanocom, so that could be a bit difficult then & I suppose u then need the codes then ??

Probably means its not immobilised. That's how mine works. Talk to MR, British Offroad or someone similar. They might have some used ones that can be synchronised to the vehicle for a reasonable cost. I was quoted $450 for a new one synchronised.

Other Option is to scrap the OEM immobilizer/keyless and have an aftermarket jobbie fitted.

I'm pretty sure my 97 has a transponder in the body of the key, and the button fob only locks and unlocks the door.
U can lock with the remote, and unlock with the key and the little red light on the instrument cluster goes out, and starts fine.

    Interesting.....
I'm assuming u would have to tap into the existing wiring ??

Yeah. U could probly use some
Of the existing Immob wiring, might be a bit of a fiddle. But would be a better result than tapping in behind the ign switch like most aftermarket alarms.
