    2013 6 speed g'box onto 2001 td5

    I'm considering fitting a 6 speed Defender g'box to my 2001 td5 Defender.

Has anyone done it or has anyway any hints on issues.

Has anyone came across an adapter kit to do it?

M&D in the UK have a kit for the HS 2.8TGV, Ashcrofts started to develop it for the Td5 I believe, but havent a product as of yet. I would send them a email.

Im sure there would be plenty of people in Oz that could do it....jst a matter of finding the right ones and $$$$$

Ashcroft do not do a kit and are not planning to produce one.

I have a machinist that can produce the necessary hardware, just need to know what is involved and whether it will physically fit
    ie
    1. will the td5 engine stay where it is?
    2. do I keep the td5 flywheel or adapt up the 2.2 tdci flywheel to the td5 crank?
    2. will the MT82 gear lever need mod?
    3. will the LT230 stay where it is?
    4. will the LT230 gear lever need mod?

With that attitude no one will assist any time soon, best you just find a company that will do the work and deal with the cost.

OK final position - the MT82 box is far too short (bellhousing and input shaft) to marry to a td5 engine.

    It cannot be done.

Looks like the Ashcroft underdrive in combination with 1:1.2 or 1:1 hi range gear set in the LT230 is the way to go.

SO the intergeral bell housing can not be modifed? A new imput shaft or adapter can not be made? The engine moved back? the Lt230 remote mounted?...

If it can be fitted to a TDI (which Ashcroft have done ) then it can be mated to the TD5 , it already fits an LT230 so its half done.

Anything can be done, but at what cost and effectiveness.

The integral bellhousing on the MT82 is some 230mm shorter than the R380.
Totally different situation than the 200tdi/300tdi setup.

As you know the td5 runs a special flywheel which can not be altered.
Also MT82 bellhousing is far smaller diameter than the td5 flywheel.

Moving the engine back by 230mm may be a solution but that would necessitate moving all of the radiators back likewise. Furthermore the td5 runs highly specialised engine mounts.........
