    Battery on charge continuously

    Hey guys,

I've got my batteries on a permanent charge while the Range Rover is not in use (weeks at a time) using my Ctek 10amp smart charger. After a few days it goes into a mode that allows the batteries to rest until 12.7v then boosts them back at 13.6v until they draw nearly no current, then repeats this cycle.

Is this ok for the batteries or should I be letting them sit without charging for a while?

    Both batteries are Supercharge All-Rounders.

    Cheers
    Keithy

Should be fine. Our camper trailer battery is the same, and has never had a problem. Your smart charger should prevent overcharging.

Mate does this with his low Km Jag. Seems to spend most of his time in an aged "Corsair" -for trips to Bunnings and the supermarket! The battery for the Jag is in the boot. Jag specialist/autoelec fitted a plug-in socket and supplied a C-Tek low amp charger for precisely this purpose. I read somewhere this is standard MO for Ferrari owners.

Gday mate I work a a battery shop and we recommend you leave it on all the time if you can they'll last a lot longer if you keep them full all the time.

"Cycling" and battery, flatening it then charging it is what shortens their lifespan

They come standard with Harleys also. CTeks are great , more often than not they will resurrect a previously thought to be a buggered battery , through some sort of pulsing and de-sulphating cycle.

Confirms my initial thoughts! Good to hear I've made the right decision!
