Hypoid gear engagement is a black art - white man's magic. :( My experience.
About all the normal punter can do is set it up to whine, eat the planets, chew teeth or bearings :( .................and of course, "learn" :)
One of those things that unless your really know what you are doing and have the appropriate "feel"; better to have a diff specialist set it up.

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and not sure I'm in the right spot to ask this...anyway:
I bought an ex-Army 6x6 Defender from Gray's, and I'm having trouble finding spares for the front diff. The diff is heavy duty and not a standard 110.
I've heard of a guy in Colo Heights, Hilton Pollard, who may have spares.
Can anyoe give me advice of Hilton, or where I might find parts for this beast ??

Id have said your pinion is too low, lift it a couple of thou then re-adjust the wheel.
but where youve got it is acceptable if the pattern is the same on both sides
The pinion contact is at the heel of the crown wheel tooth it needs to go deeper to be at the middle of the tooth it is in the middle of the tooth up and down in relation to the tooth shoulder but it must be deeper to the centre of the differential carrier to achieve the correct contact there are lots of sites on the net to show correct tooth pattern.
