What about S/H ?
use a small magnet on a bit of wire or dowel to reach down and pick up the allan key if you cant get to it from underneath the vehicle.
telescopic magnets are available at most parts/tool shops k-mart etc.
they are basically a small magnet on the end of a telescopic radio aerial
not expensive and very very VERY handy to have.
P.S.
make sure to seal under the bolt heads with a bit of hylomar or similar
on the plenum chamber.
those v8s are not very good at idling smoothly uless the valves are lapped in properly.
we were ripping heads of v8s and getting the valves lapped (or re seated
or whatever you want to call it) on pre delivery.
have you tired http://www.advancediaphragmoptions.com/ourproducts.htmQuote:

next on the list is to repalce the Distributor Vacuum Unit as its not doing anything at all, so idles pretty crappy. But to get a new one is $135, so will ahve to see about that.
I know a few blokes around here have used them - only heard good things about their service.

my father in law came around last night and he had a telecopic magnet and got the alan key out, we also got the beast idling very nicely now. some fool at some point had basically put the air/fuel mixture to max.
she goes really nicely now. Still gotta do the diaphram, but it still is running nice.
wish i had some extractors on it, as it already has a 2.5" exhaust on it.
The diaphrams are $65 exchange from Advance diaphram options. They work great. CARB and GAS at the Gabba stock them as well.
pickin a diaphram up tomorrow, so will fit it maybe tomorrow arvo or fri morning.
do you need to take out the distributor to take the diaphram off? as there are 2 screws holding it on, and the one at the back is in a pretty precarious (big word for me) position, facing the motor.
Don't normally need to take the dissy out, just don't drop the screws.
DONE DONE DONE DONE !!!!!
woohoo, finally completed.
Vacuum advance is in. It was a bit of a job, not too hard though. I ended up removing the top radiator hose, the radiator hose to motor fitting and then i was able to get to the screw at the back of the vacuum advance ass'y. replaced.
while i was there, i fully cleaned up the fitting that the hose connects to as it was pretty gunky looking, also had to sort out the gasket, used some more of the Gasket Maker glue.
Tuned the air/petrol mix and it now runs very well. If you rev it reasonable hard (just sitting there), it almost cuts out as the revs drop to zero, but then goes back up to about 500rpm idle. I will get me Bro-In-Law to have a gander at this for me when i see him next (!)
Now, what to do next on the beast???? thinkin of setting up a snorkel, or maybe spending my money on some decent shockers and springs. Or a Dual Battery setup. Hhmmm, so many things can be done
i think its idling a bit low
