Sourcing Tools

supa crap has some decent tools
they also have a lot of real crap tools.
the gold series they carry is supposed to be equal to snap-on
ive been told. i had a look and they seem pretty decent. not the cheapest
but spending thousands on your pride and joy justifies the price
of a few hundred dollars to keep it running.


second hand tools seem the go to save money but you have to buy
the better brands to come out ahead.

another idea is to buy a small tool box with drawers (a smaller version of mechanics tool chest). this can left at home for all work at home and then put in back of car for trips away. having only one set of tools justifies buying quality. not leaving them in car reduces chances of them getting stolen. and lastly if you need a tool you dont have you only need to buy one. not one for the car and one for home. again a saving, which the difference in cost can go towards quality.


or find someone that has a really good toolkit in their vehicle and always travel with them? works for me......

Qld Trade Tools in Acacia Ridge/Archerfield.

Bunnings (sell Sidchrome in limited supply)

Repco have their own branded tools which seem to look like a quality product. Not sure about the price though.

Some specialist tool suppliers sometimes have wonderful quality tools for a bargain price.[/b][/quote]

Aside from the value to the original question there are plenty of other people who read the post - some choose to take it all in, For mine - I dont need to be told where to buy my tools - cos I alread have them BUT i do value each persons imput into the original question.

This post hasnt been taken off topic - hyjacked or whatever you want to call it......

With a list of the better brands I.E. Sidchrome, Stahl-Wille, Minimax, Dufor, Kingchrome, Gedore(India) Daniel Forge, take your self along to the Caboolture Markets on a Sunday morning and look at the 2nd hand tools on display, the most common sizes that you will need are metric 8 thru to 23 in double ended ring spanners, 1/2 in drive sockets, ring and open-ended spanners, and a GOOD quality Ratchet (I got a 2nd hand Daniel-Forge ratchet at Caboolture for $20 looked a little grubby but had no wear) got it 4years ago Also smaller Hock-shops in your area :wink:

I have a set of Repco 1/2 drive sockets,Repco 1/4 drive socket set plus a few Repco ringies I have purchased as needed.They are great quality and feel good in the hand(THAT WILL SURELY GET VLAD GOING!!!!!! Those new "SPECIAL" Supaturd sets look and feel much like the REPCO tools,its quite possible that they come from the same factory.

Just found on the www. an online Aussie tool shop that advertises free delivery Aus wide. Prices are posted on the site, which makes browsing more rewarding, and prices appear better than bunnings on a couple of things I've checked so far.

I have no idea why their home page has such a long web address, but here it is.

Nothing is free! It's just that the F/A-18 Hornet is $50.00 and the snap-on tool kit is $Mega-mi,lli,ons [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]

I once priced a 3/8 drive socket set from Snap-on and it was something outrageous like $800!!

8) vlad, i chuck spanners most days to get bread and butter,
all the cheap stuff isn,t worth it.
for what you want kingchrome will do the job, i have them as the play set
if you want to go up from there go
repco/sidchrome/proto
gedore
snap on
stahwille
the snap on and stahwille are expensive
stahwille is better, but snap on is handy as they come to you with the truck, take plastic on the truck, but you'd be amazed at how expensive some things are, and have a good warranty.
if i were you i'd go with repco or kingchrome.

another way to pick up some pieces is to look at the little sunday markets and stuff, sometimes you can pick up the good brands for chickenfeed, sometimes a bit old or rusty but if the thing has good jaws, isn't bent you can have a win. this is where i pick up things to modify [it hurts to weld up $100 spanners to make special tools]

I have seen Kinchrome tools, so would I be right in assuming that there are what you mean when you say 'Kingchrome' or is one a cheap rip off of the other ?
