Thanks Noddy .. pics will be a great help. I was thinking of doing one drawer with a shelf to level the load area with the wheel boxes (similar to Bushie's design) and follow that up with a verticel devide. I'm going to use angle aluminium and a product called Qubelok .. from Capral Aluminium to build the frame and close it off with plywood. The drawer will slide out on a heavy duty drawer runner .. similar to the ones in a file cabinet.

I've used a 50L Waeco recently and thought when you level the floor with the wheel boxes the fridge will be level with the back windows .. meaning easy access throught the window. Makes sense if you don't have to open the door all the time ...

Rob I would like to see your setup .. might be an option.

Not a problem.

Yeah I put the marine carpet down about 12 months ago. Not only does it protect the wheel arches, but also cuts down on some of the road noise. It was a bit like being inside a drum!

I am really interested to know how your drawers go.

I have made a single draw system entirely of 2 and 3mm aluminium and the queblock system. Probably about $500 of aluminium but total wieght is maybe 20-25kg. I had a draw bent up and sides welded together then attached rectangle al runners down the side and brought a heap of sealed bearings, about $2 each, on which it slides. I am still to cover it in carpet but it is pretty strong- I wouldn't stand in the draw like like some advertise but I have put about 20kg in the front and pulled it out to full extension and it has still slide easily. I have mounted my 56litre EXPLORER fridge on it. The explorer fridge is Australian made in Maryborough out of marine grade aluminium with excellent insulation and two seperate compartments for the fridge and freezer. Excellent fridge- only draw back is the size as it is large. I can still open the lid wit it in the back although I have to climb in to see into it. I am going to mount a bolt on the inner roof so I can clip the lid up when accessing the fridge. I will post pics if some one can tell me how to do it. I have got to the folders section with photos but get errors everytime I try to put a photo up. Here is the website for the fridge.

pic shows the draw front with latch. draw does not go full length due to door and to allow a gap to put tent poles, cheater bars etc. I have used 2mm aluminium for the top sheet which is in two parts to get into the car- it is tech srewed down onto the queblok frame. There is also a full sheet of 1.6mm al on the bottom. You can see the framework made from queblock- I got the idea from a link posted on the first page that I had seen ages ago-the patrol storage link.

These pics show the bearings and high tensil bolts to hold them on. I got this from an article on the commercial draws- I have about 8 bearings per side. The bolts are a snug fit around the bearing inner and I have used two washers to space them out from the side of the cabinet. The only runner that teh commercial draws use that I don't have is some mounted on the bottom horizontally to stop the draw skewing as pushed in- mine does skew a minor inconvienience but I use it as a lock to keep the draw out when on a slope.

The system is bolted to the car at the rear seat belt mounts, a bolt through the wheel arch on the passenger side rear and (yet to do) a bolt into the floor at the passenger side rear. The top of the cabinet is the height of the wheel arches plus one thickness of queblok to allow for a higher draw. I am yet ot put in a hinged piece around over the passenger side rear storage compartment in the wheel arch and cover the whole lot in auto carpet- including in the draws to stop sliding and banging of stuff over bumps. Any other questions just ask.
