91 Rangie - Electrics dying in the back end.

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to help a mate with the electrics of his 91 Range Rover. He is slowing loosing electrical things on the inside in the rear. 8O

First the rear demister, then the wiper and the interior light switch on the tailgate. he also tells me the rear speakers aren't working and now the rear central locking is playing funny buggers!

Tomorrow I have the task of helping him work out what is cactus. :? :? ... all the relays have power to them and all the exterior rear lights etc are fine... I don't yet have a wiring diagram for it.... but hopefully with a bit of searching tonight I should track one down.

My gut feeling is there is posssibly a plastic connector that has come loose in the loom somewhere. He reckons this started after he changed the fuel pump... so I was thinging of starting near there... Any suggestions here would be VERY appreciated.

Just wondered if any of you that are Rangie experts might be able to point me to possible sources .... before I have to work down the multimeter and trace the wires thing... (which I reckon has the potential to bugger and entire sunday! :? )

Thanks in advance if you can help.

See what happens if you apply a good earth to the back of the car. You might have power everywhere, but if things aren't earthing properly they'll be intermittent or fail.

Find a component that doesn't work,
check to see if there's power
if there is, apply earth to the device
if that works, then all you need to do is clean up your earth connectors or run an extra earth wire to the chassis/body.

I hope it's something so simple.

    Hey Guys,

    Sorry for the slow response!

My mates missus took the car out before I got there!. :? ..

So we did what seemed like a good idea. ..... we sat in the sun and had a beer waiting for her...

......then another ( you know one is NEVER enough )

    .....and another

... and ... well you know how it goes!.... by the time she got back we had lost interest in the wiring big time :!: ( probably just as well...)

I have passed on all your suggetions and will update you once we get back to it! ops:
