Installing CD player, installing phone kit and GPS cable

    Hi,

I've just picked up a shiny new Disco S Td5 auto and would like to install my MP3 player (a harddisk-based player like a stacker).

BTW these hard disk MP3 players work well off-road and it never really missed a beat in the Defender. I originally bought it from mstation.com.au (no affiliation) you can see it at http://www.mstation.com.au/ms/products/def...ault.asp?ID=310. It is based on a removable hard disk caddy that you can slot in your PC in order to load songs. Mine is an older model that does not have USB

It needs to be connected to the auxilliary input of the CD/Radio head unit as it did not work very well via an FM modulator.

Can anyone tell me whether that standard Land Rover in-dash CD player in current Discovery S vehicles has an aux input? (or can the CD stacker input be converted to an aux input?). Possibly there is a cable that will convert the CD stacker input to 2xRCA connections or similar?

I had this in the Defender that I just traded. That install required me to buy a Kenwood CD/MP3 player with an aux-input. I re-installed the original radio/casette in the Defender so that I could retain the Kenwood CD player in case I need it for my MP3 stacker.

I like the radio volume controls on the steering wheel and the land rover CD player is nicely integrated, however if it doesn't have an aux input then I'll need to install the Kenwood in the Discovery.

I also have a phone kit and garmin GPS power cable to install and was wondering where the best place is to tap off power. I'll probably use accessories power for the phone and permanent power for the GPS cable.

    Thanks. LRG.

    Hi,

I've been doing lots of research tonight to try and find out who makes the in-dash CD player.

If anyone has the model number and manufacturer that would help.

For reference the CD player is black with the volume knob on the left-hand side. This knob is surrounded by an eliptical control with "Fade / Bal" and "Bass / Treb".

I used pieces of straight coat-hanger wire to remove a radio in the past but I'm not sure with this one.

    Thanks, LRG

I just tried poking 4 pieces of coat hanger wire into the holes but the CD player would not budge. Unfortunately the dash surrounds make it very difficult to get a decent hold on the CD player.

I'm keen to find out if anyone has sucessfully removed this CD player.

I also had a good look under the driver's seat to see if the cable for the optional CD stacker is present. Unfortunately no luck (unless I wasn't looking hard enough).

I think I have found empty sockets from which I may be able to source power behind the under dash cover. I'll have to try and work out what these are normally for.

    Thanks, LRG

I may be wrong (it happened once 8) ) but I think the Disco unit is the same as in some late model BMW's :?:
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
