Suspension update

Well after waiting....and waiting, for my rear springs I put them in this weekend. I'm really not happy with the result.
After settling the fronts were raised approximately 50mm, I'd say the backs went up about 40mm. That's ok, because the front was always 20mm lower anyway, But, the drivers side rear's about 20mm lower than the passenger side, and it still doesn't look right.
I checked the stock front and back springs against each other and I think I'm going to swap them again. I reckon I'll put the defender fronts in the back, as they're heavier than the kings I've got in the rear.
Then I'll put the rear kings in the front, but I'll swap the high side to the drivers and the low side to the passengers and give that a go.
If that doesn't work then I'll leave the defender springs in the back and try the stock backs in the front.
Then if all else fails I'll get some brand new springs for the front.
I will say this though, the ride's so much better with the king springs in the back, even with the dead, stock shocks.

It's sag from you drivers side always sags over time, putting the passenger side spring on the drivers side will fix it in the short term or do what you said new front springs.
Cheers Baz.

Hey Mod guys,,,

can we move this important thread to the Tech Section???

Looks like I have been under a misapprehension,, I always thought if you lined up a set of genuine disco springs they'd all be different heights,,,
Interested in the outcome as I will be respringing BUB soon. looking at original spring rates at 1" oversize.

Well pedro, I've got defender springs in the front at the moment. Those are going to come out and go in the rear.
The ones in the back are second hand king springs, so it was some other fat bastard that sagged that one. I know that moving it to the opposite side front will only be a temporary fix but it'll probably last a while. I'm pretty sure the springs are all the same height, even the defender ones were the same height as the disco fronts. The main thing is they're the same diameter so they'll fit and being heavier I should get the desired lift to match the others. It's amazing what we'll do to save a buck. I probably won't get it done till the weekend after aces bbq, but I'll let you know how it works.

Hi disco, sorry to hear its not quite right yet. I rang Alan at British 4wd and asked him about new fender springs for my disco, and he said the back ones are different, not sure if this is true, can anyone confirm or deny. He said he can however supply a set of 4 disco springs especially designed to provide a 2in lift, they were around the $100 each maybe less, cant really remember. Maybe that would be the way to go Disco. Matt
