    blown fuses

    recently fitted 2 anderson plugs to rear of disco5
    both are run from battery with own returns
    both have seperate fuses (1 is 25 amp & 2 40 amp)
    when picking up van from dealer spark and blown fuse on battery
    left disconnected and checked wiring when back at home
    found lead from anderson plug on van runs to circuit breaker on shadow bd then to selection switch for mains or vehicle (aha theres the problem! no!!)
    tried operating switch before connecting anderson still same result, BUT, after running vehicle for a short time plugged into the other plug and presto!!! all works
    off for weekend disconnect van , run on 240 volt and charger for batteries all good
    connect up van and voila!!!! same thing again
    I am an electrician and for the life of me I cannot see what is happening
    The charger for the breakaway comes from the other side of the circuit breaker fed by the anderson plug
    Any one have an answer???

    UMy friend's Triton was blowing fuses on the dealer fitted anderson plug. We checked the trailer from top to bottom. Checked the car wiring and re did most of it. It was very ordinary for a 'professional' job.

    The problem in the end was the anderson plug on the car had the polarity back to front. A 5 minute fix but it took a lot longer than that to find.

    checked that as thought that might be problem but all good it doesn't matter which plug you use same thing happens

    Hi Bob and not quite following you but for a start, how thick is the cabling going to the Anderson plugs in your disco, and the same in the van.

    Furthermore, if one of the batteries is in a low state, a 25 amp fuse is way to small and even the 40 amp is on the small side, if the cabling is as thick as it should be.

    Have you included a current limiting device in the positive feed to the vehicles anderson plugs as this is protection against a flat or shorted battery in the towed vehicle.

    yes
    have fitted current limiters/fuses to all of the cables originating from a battery in either van or vehicle
