    Not your standard tyre question

I have searched the fora and spoken to friends and club members but still can't decide whether to replace my 245/70 16 AT's on my Disco with 265/70 16's.

My dilemma is that I already have a set of 245/70 16 muddies with heaps of life left. I am looking at whether there is any advantage to going 265/70 for my everyday AT's.
They look better filling the arch, but will put me at the mercy of having an 'out' speedo.

    What have others decided?

For the record, once my 245/70 muddies are bald, I'll be shoeing the horse with 265/75 muddies.

I just can't think of any advantage of 265/70 for everyday use. But damn they look better on the car!

I think you are correct there with odometer being way out as the other week was using a book to follow a track and odometer measurements between my vehicle and book varied on average about 100meters per km if not more

I started looking for fuel leaks it was that bad then the penny dropped and I checked the odo against the GPS useing aussie explorer not going to but super accurate but soon worked out what was going on. No big deal in the scheme of things but I'm anal about when my gear gets serviced and it was just too vague so went back to standard tyres I will go up a size again just not that large.

265/70 will give you approx.101kph with indicated 100, 265/75 will show approx. 102/103 kph with indicated 100.
Cost difference 245-265 is also bugger all.

    Thanks all

I reckon I'll go with whatever I can get that's value for money.
If the cost differential is negligible, I'll shop around.
I'll definately go 265 for my next muddies, but I'll shop around for 245/255/265 for my AT's and just shop on price.

    Cheers

My Disco is fitted with factory alloys.
    It has 265/75 16's fitted.

when my speedo shows 100kph. MY GPS shows 110kph as does my nanocom.

Speedo shows 50kph, gps shows about 55.

Seems to be around 10% low on the speedo.

D2 speedo must be calibrated differently, D1 reads over by about 4-5 % so by the time you adjust that to 1/1 then add the difference in diameter 10% is about right. On my 265/75 muddies 95 is actually 98 and 105 is 109 actual speed.
