Converting Disco Solid Front Rotors to Vented

    Howdy all,
I've noticed the difference in breaking since i put the larger Tyres on my Series 1 Disco. Ive gone up to 32" and it breaks really bad compared to what it was like.
A nice chap in Frankston who plays with TDI Timing Gears (instead of belts) suggested an upgrade from Solid Rotor to Vented.

    OK Question Time.
I'm guessing that the Vented Disc Calipers just bolt on or are they different botl position?

So all i need is Vented Discs and the calipers to suit?

Any need for Different Bias valves or Master Cylinders or are they all the same?

Next Questions. Who is wrecking a Rangie or Disco with Vented Rotors and Calipers to Suit?

    Regards
    Steve

If the brakes are getting hot just put some slotted rotors on it proably only $100 each as standard ones are about $65. It is the gas the pads give of that cause brake fade as it holds the pad of the disc. I doubt the vented discs will actually make it stop easier. You maybe need some softer pads if you want more bite. Vented discs where originally fited in markets where they had to use asbestos free padds.

While at LVS today I ask Brian about a set of callipers for vented discs.

He sells a spacer kit, around $40, that you use to space your current callipers out so you can fit the vented discs on a non vented calliper.

Go to be easier and cheaper than replacing the callipers?

    G'day everyone
just wondering are the rangie vented disks the same size as the nonvented, and do they alter the wheel offset when fitted. if not does anyone know the price of the vented front disks, as it sounds like a worthwile covversion

    Cheers Chriso73

no vented discs are about 8-10mm wider.

need spacer for calipers or a set of calipers to suit.

they do not effect wheel off set.

My understanding is that the vented discs help with heat dissapation, so in theory shouldnt offer any increased breaking performance in normal conditions. Is this right?

In practice, i have noticed that my mates vented RR pulls up a lot better than mine.

vented just keep their cool better and cool down quicker.

if you can get vented with slotted / grooved then these are even better - doesn't allow the gases to build up as much between the disc and the pad - removing break fade.
