What 240 Volt 4WD Battery Charger Recommendations?

    Hello All,

What brand of 240 volt battery chargers would people recommend?

The 12 volt batteries to be charged range from:

    • a Holden Commodore,
    • a N70ZZL 4WD for a 2.6 Litre Land Rover,
    • up to a tractor battery?

What sort of mill-amps would be best to aim for?

    ================================================== ===

Trickle Chargers: Also what brand and amp-age trickle charger would be be best to keep the 4WD & Tractor batteries topped up when not in use?

    Thank you!

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

I have a Supercheap 12amp smart charger - seems to work great. De sulphurs batteries all automatically.

I have both a CTek and a projecta, both do the job, they are in the 10 to 15 Amp range. Both will go into trickle charge once they have done the business on the battery. That also have reconditioning modes and at least one goes into a powersupply mode. Both were in the $200 mark.

Check out the range from Traxide . He's a member on here and very helpful.

I also use a cheap solar panel to keep batteries topped up

I would go CTek as they will charge wet cell batteries and AGM type batteries. Not all chargers will and when put on any sort of AGM will show up a fault.
I have had numerous chargers some good some not so good.
The CTek 5 amp is by far the best and has not missed a beat, charges all our 4wd, car and motor bike batteries. works on all batteries.
Matson 5 amp, not bad ,but has had intermittent problems. Works on all batteries.
Projecta POS and was put in the garbage but also was the old style sold at KMart.
Projecta Workshop charger 12000ma, great heavy duty charger for big jobs and rejuvenating batteries.
Calibre 5 amp I think now are SCA, I think Calibre were the SCA brand for a while, cheap and you get what you pay for, not good chargers thaough are supposed to be multi stage with float. These have destroyed a couple of bike batteries by boiling them dry. OK if used on a timer for short periods.

I would go CTek from now on. The CTek 5 amp with recondition mode can be bought from as little as $95 to $120 depending on reseller.

I've got a 15amp CTek. Definitely light years ahead of the cheapies I've had previously.

    Awesome thanks.

That 15a jobbie looks overkill for me though
