turning a ZF box from 4wd to 2wd

Hi guys , looking for some help.

Im doing an engine/box conversion , and need to turn the auto from a 4wd box to a 2wd box. Now , i have the vehicle here , havent pulled the motor or box out yet , but have been told its a ZF box , so im wondering , is there a rear section available , so i can lose the transfer case and fit a rear extension housing from another gearbox onto it , and what tailshaft/ spline should i be looking for.

Motor/box combo is being retro fitted into a gemini and will be street registered.

P.s , im not some pimple faced 16 y.o with dreams of being delusional.. I already am delusional!! lol

Didn't the bmw's run this box as a 2wd configuration?
Google images might be your answer.

BMW and possibly Mercedes, i have often thought how to take a TDI and ZF and put it into a sedan as 2wd so you are not alone.
BMW version would be easy to find i reckon.

A quick google shows BMW used it from 1980 up -

So did Volvo 7 series, and even XJ40 Jaguar.

Good idea, I was going to do disco1 3.9 V8 auto into Volvo 760 at some stage, of course THAT never happened....

Thats the handbrake drum of the LT230 transfer case, surely you would have known this if you are contemplating your proposed swap

Actually no.. I know pretty much nothing about landy's or their parts. I didnt realise the handbrake wasnt in the rear wheels. Thought it may have been some sort of transbrake.

Im getting a little worried now that i wont be able to put a tailshaft onto the back of the gearbox , even with a 2wd extension housing. Research and photos are coming up short of finding the detailed info i need.
I bought a defender ( running driving , and delivered to my door registered , now unregistered ) and swapped it for this parts car that was carby fed with extractors , which it also seems i cannot use as they dont hug the motor close enough , so i'll have to get custom made ones. Unsure if the extractors are worth anything either.

Given the list of RWD vehicles with the same box i dont see that as a problem. Sounds an interesting swap.

Would it be a matter of swapping bellhousings straight onto a 2wd box and im good to go? instead of trying to obtain a rear housing and a tailshaft to suit , i can just take the box and talshaft and mod/join the tailshaft uni to my existing gemini shaft.
