Hi Robbo
Any chance the oil was hiding in the heater matrix????
Andrew
Can anyone offer advice.
1999 Disciover Td5 SE7
Have a problem whereby have found engiine oil in the coolant system header tank. L/R service isolated problem to the engine mounted oil cooler. Problem was solved we thought. Think it has returned, though unsure if oil now found in the tank is residue from before. First repair occurred beginning Nov 04.
Oil used before was MOBIL 1.
First time leak started out slowly then accelerated after long highway trip.
Lost about 1L of oil into coolant.
Problem appeared to be fixed, however today noticed trace of oil in overflow,
(tank has a dual interconnected chamber design ???) emptied tank & found about 150ml of oil. Do not know if this was trapped in the tank from previous.
Oil level appears not to have altered. No water in the oil or condensation on oil filler cap.
Otherwise vehicle running really well.
Has anyone experienced this problem
Thanks
Craig.

Thanks for your replies.
Don't think it was heater matrix, as when it first happened oil was too fresh.
First repair appeared to fix the problem.
Concerning cracked head, think the problem would have continued & become worse after first repair.
Have since spoken to Graeme Cooper Automotive, Graeme thinks that the oil is residue from the initial leak. He also said this was a rare problem & as the cooler was replaced the problem will be fixed.
Have since cleaned out the reservoir tank, there was a lot of old oil in the tank & connecting hose.
Think that we will have to keep cleaning the system & keep an eye on it.
From a technical viewpoint, the oil cooler is a stupid design, iI think it should be serperate from the engine & be aircooled.
Keep you posted.
