QLD Mod Plate - Query

Thanks Guys, got the Rangie finally registered today so all good.

It was was the first time I had to get a mod plate so I was just wanting to check with you guys in the know.....the majority of you guys that responded have given me confidence that all legit.

The turbocharger is standard fitment for the engine going into the vehicle, so isnt considered a seperate modification.

I went though this a few months back with Queensland Transport when I was considering putting a turbo setup on my falcon 'ute

By thier rules, if I simply added an aftermarket turbo kit to the original engine, I'd need to get it mod plated.

BUT

If I did an engine swap using the engine from an XR6 turbo, either a sedan or ute, I dont need to do anything other than inform Queensland Transport of the engine change, no approvals or inspections needed because its an engine already offered in that model range....

The funny part? Once I have a factory turbo engine fitted, I can modify it to my hearts content, and I dont have to worry about a thing..... If I wanted to fit an aftermarket kit (identical to an upgrade for a factory turbo motor), I'd be looking at possible emissions testing, engineering approval, braking upgrades, etc....
