You may need to rejet the carb. Not too hard to do on the Edelbrock with their jetting kit.

I used the genuine Edelbrock insulating spacer on my 4.6. Yes the Performer inlet manifolds are available from most speed shops.

I had a Holley 600 double pumper many years ago, when i was 18 on a 302 windsor in a rangie, it would get the dreaded vapour lock......wait for half an hour to restart

The spacer I can assure you will fix it

I have never had to re-jet a Quadrajet yet. They work well straight up. I have installed them on Chrysler Hemi 6's; Rover V8's; Holden 6's with the secondary throats fixed shut, with one secondary, and on a turbo conversion; Bedford trucks. They pass fuel through the jets in proportion to the volume of air passing through the venturis and jet sizes don't seem to make much difference. All came from wreckers or swap meets and mostly were from 253, 308, 350 Holden V8's. I suppose a big block might require re-jetting simply because of the amount of fuel required when under full load. You will need a minor fiddle with the idle screws. If you find access awkward, there is a special tool.
