G'day Crump!

Where are you and what vehicle do you have?

Bruce Davis Performance Landy at Annangrove in Sydney is the man who does the remapping of the ECU. I do not have his number handy, but he is in the directory or drop me a PM. It is not a new chip as such, but new download software into the ECU.

They can do it so that they wipe its memory and when LRA check, you cannot see the upgrade. Although, once they drive it they will know something has been done. Mine is about to come out of warranty and LRA have never said anything to me about it. I know some Landy dealers will actually get it done pre-delivery, so there are some real contradictions in how LRA are approaching the upgrade.

I have had mine done for about 6mths and only had one problem which was to do with the turbo overboosting and sending the ECU into limp mode. Bruce quickly fixed this and I have not had any problems at all.

The only concern I have is with the driveline in the Defender. If you have your landy long enough you will need to replace your axles with something stronger, I think the upgrade is likely to bring that about sooner. The R380 manual gearbox is only meant to handle 380Nm of torque and the upgraded engine puts out 450Nm :? I have not heard of any problems with gearboxes as a result of the upgrades. In fact the R380 box is used in other V8 powered vehicles producing probably even greater torque. When changing gears, I take it pretty easy. Same goes for offroad when using the max torque.

There is no comparison with the engine pre-remapping. It is really quite astounding. Low-end performance is not as greatly improved as I would have hoped, but from about 2,100-3200rpm, the thing just flies.

Fuel consumption remains pretty much the same. Overall economy is the low 11l/100km.

There are a few others on the forum who have had it done, Hiline, Henry etc, so they should also be able to provide their feedback.

All the best.

Bruce Davis Contact Details

Hi Crump

Try Bruce Davis on 02 9679 1179. I was quoted $950.00 all up including posting of ECU etc which you will be without for about a week. I am about to do the same so I would be keen to hear how you get on. I have a "99 S2 Td5 manual disco.

I would also be keen to hear from anyone who thinks I need to upgrade any other parts to cope with the additional power and torque - all comments appreciated.

Good mluck and hopefully hear from you soon.

ok guy's i've had mine in for 5yrs now
no real problems as such

but i do find that in mine (130 dual cab) it rips front uni's apart on a regular basis
maybe the way i drive it ops: ops:
which is extremly hard

also installed a 3in exhaust

you will find with the bigger exhaust
you can hold gears alot longer giving you more speed

as noddy said fuel consuption
doesnt change much

with the chip installed
it makes the td5 so much better to drive
in any condition

best money ever spent

I've had mine chipped for about a year with no problems.

When I bought the vehicle the dealer said get it chipped, no it won't affect the warranty. (I'm not going to tell them about it though!).

As with Noddy I was a bit disappointed in the low end but mid-range torque is vastly improved. 8)

Crump, Land Rover Spares in Mackay have done a number of the Davis Chips and they have Autologic. They can do it on a change over basis, drive in/drive out. Trevor (Owner) has done his own Disco and I had my Xtreme done about 2 years ago. Done about 50,000 km since and have long since forgotten what it used to be like. Had no problems with it at all and I am running a larger intercooler. The phone no. is 4957 5854. Cost is no more than the Bruce Davis cost plus postage. You will not regret it.

Regards, Barry.
