    OME rear suspension - Defender

    G'day all,
After paying over a grand for new shocks (N46), springs(755) and damper on my Defender i've been having issues with the rear shocks topping when traveling over bumps (even speed humps, drive ways). After a little research it seems that this is a common problem when buying this combination from ARB for Defenders. I have also discovered that ARB aren't too accomodating when people try to have the problem rectified (under warranty). So, i have a couple of questions.

Has anyone on this forum had this problem?

Has anyone got any advice before i head into ARB?

Has anyone got any ideas on what i can do (not AR to solve the shock problem? ie. a good matching shock for the 755 spring.

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers,

    Ty

my ARB outlet (Canberra) was very accommodating when I wanted to change over new rear springs even after driving around on them for quite a few weeks. ARB are a big company - suggest you contact head office to get your local outlet to extract a digit...

I have heard the Bilsteins are as good as the publicity seems to indicate. However having said that there will be someone with a horror story about how they are no good, and how the suplier shafted them when it all went pear shaped. Generally though they seem to have a good reputation.
The other shock that seem to get good over all reports is the Konis. Again someone will have a tale of disaster.
From memory both brands are rebuildable if one packs in, or revalving for harder use is required.

I think it might be that they are not long enough :?

This link may be of some assistance.

I run 764 on the back of my 90 , along with N44 Shocks , and have found them to be fantastic.
I really give my truck hell when i go off road, and they have lasted well.
Lot better then the crappy scrap iron racing springs which i had before.
In the Uk , OME are seen as the best for off roading and gen use

you can buy Bilstein in lengths from 8 to 20 odd inches of travel,,

for "off the shelf" stuff in Oz they're the best .

Can be revalved in Melb. (probably elsewhere by now,,)
