Defender Air Con Removal from dash

    A couple of questions:

I've never really been able to play with the workings of a Landy (my father was ultra protective of his, who'd have thought ), so I haven't worked much on them until now, so I'm a little afraid of things because they have a habit of going crack and bang when I'm working it (it's mainly the $$ thing ).

    (a) The bolts at each end of the internal a/c assembly have worked themselves loose and the nuts have gone for a wander in the dash assembly, behind the speakers 8O ! As a result the a/c seems to be hanging (about 1cm) there, bouncing about. My hands are too fat to fit in through the speaker holes to find them

Does anyone know what the procedure is for removing the Air Con from the dash assembly with minimal damage/frustration?

( Also, the internal plastic frame for the dash has cracked significantly, (you can see it as you step in, next to the heater controls), is it worth worrying about (searching for a replacement etc?). At the moment it seems superficial, but I'm a perfectionist

© I've just got my Ashcroft High Ratio kit, so the removal of Transfer Box is necessary to install the new gears. (i) How easy/long, (ii) Tools rqd, (iii) tip's and tricks? :?

    Cheers

im not gonna be any help to you my but defender air con has done exactly the same thing on the passenger side. its been like that for about four months now. mine is under warranty and i therefore have not bothered with it till it goes in for repairs.

    must be a common thing.

or maybe the guy that tightens the screws went to the toilet or something and missed a few.

Mine did it, they fixed it, it did it again, they fixed it again, properly this time. It's been ok since (2 years now).

Pretty sure you need to access the bolts through the speaker holes. You need to find someone with smaller hands!
