    TD5 into Disco S1 V8?

Anyone done this? I don't want to part with all the bits on the current V8 but want a diesel.

Any clues to the major obstacles?

OR perhaps there are other alternative oilers??

    Bright ideas welcomed.

    Cheers

If it were me, Id go for a 300 Tdi, or maybe even a International HS 2.8 (but they are quite expensive). It all depends on what you want from your diesel.

I havn't heard of anyone as yet fitting a Td5 to an earlier Land Rover, but I cant see why it would be that difficult. The only problem I think you face is the wiring, as its a diesel that relies heavily on electronics.

That reason alone is why Id go for a 300 Tdi, as they are fully mechanical. If its power you want, the 300 Tdi is an excellent engine for modifying. Simple adjustments to the injector pump and turbo can increase power by up to 40 HP, and significant torque increase. These engines are tough, so they can handle those adjustments and still be reliable.

But if the electronics dont daunt you, then by all means go for the Td5. Be unique.

Had the same problem my self, went to trade my 94 v8 and the extras were worth more than the trade price.
putting a td5 into a disco is possible but costly, but it depends on how you do it go and price a motor, manual box, t case and rear shaft from a defender, thats the easy part.

So far around $18000 all up, with replacement parts, motor conversion
    and dianostic and wiring done.
Sold my v8, autobox, tcase, and all gas fittings and 90ltr tank
The overall price would have been less if i had bought a defender motor and manual box.

Thanks for your info. I've spent the arvo receiving resusciation from James Boags (our local best brew) after I saw the costs.

A 300Tdi is looking good, even a brand newie out of the box. I believe you can crank them up a bit and have some change from $18K.

I think I'll certainly go ahead with a swap, cos I just like the big green bugga. I think I'll tape the va va voom of the V* put it on CD and play it while the Tdi clatters away.

    Cheers

Why no a Chev 6.5 / isuzu turbo?

Conversions could easily be done for less than 10k

Chev motors are only abour 6K AFAIK.

Much more truck like, but with real torque and power.

18k just seems alot for a diesel conversion, you could just drive the V* and keep the pennys.

    Dave.
