Fuel additives for 300TDi

Always tell its a TDI by the smoke at start up ( just dont have the kids opening the back door when you start it ) 8O

My old 300 always blew smoke on start up. Never caused any problems though, except if the back door was open. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]

What's the deal here people ( obviously vendors with something to sell ) dragging up old threads from 2005. I thought there was rules.

I dont sell any of these products Wayne so, I have used:

Wynns Diesel treatment - Didnt make the slightest difference or if it did it was worse economy than I had before.

Wurth Diesel treatment - What I use now, I normally get a bit better economy when I add it but it just seems to run smoother more than anything.

Chem tech Diesel treatment - I used to use and have used extensively in machines and it has always been good, probably about the same as the Wurth.

Moreys Diesel treatment - Im not sure if it is still available but it was ok as well, we used it in our old Land Cruiser tray for a few years and never had a problem even starting it in the snow, we used to add it mainly in winter to the riser tank and give it a blast with compressed air to stir it up (on low pressure) to stop it from geling in the tank but now there are much better winter additives these days already in winter diesel that you dont need it any more.

The puff of smoke on start up is because the pump overfuels to help with starting. I use the Flashlube diesel additive mainly because I get piece of mind from the added lubricity to the fuel with the low sulphur diesel. I have found that the idle improved. Have had no probs with it, Aussie made too.
