For my gutless as all hell 3,.5 stocko V8 I get 23L/100 kms on average (dopn't bother working it out) but as a rough guess that,s what I get.
If you want fuel economy, buy a diesel. The V8's will be thirsty no matter what unfortunatley, but enjoy the sound and the LR experience 8)

Glen, it's a GMH 308.stock as a rock. I think I would be able to better the fuel economy with some airbox work, it looks small & restrictive to me. The only disapointment I have is the reluctance of the 3 speed torque flite? auto to kick down, I read an old road test on a late 70s Aston Martin that ran the same box as my Rangie. Might just need a linkage adjustment. i just love to hear it rev! Cheers Scott. :twisted:
Back in 95 I bought a new Rossignol 3.9V8 Auto. Around Sydney traffic a tank would last 320km. About 11mpg, but on long highway runs 22mpg was common. And I'm not a leadfoot, but I like aircon.
My current 93 3.5V8 auto sucks about 15l for every 100k, country style driving, and it realy needs a good tune.
PS If you're near Lismore NSW and can do this properly, you've got the job! Most mechanics around have an aversion to Discoverys

Fill to 3rd 'click', drive 100km then fill to 3rd click again 3 times then work out average. [use the same pump at same servo too]

I'm yet to travel a freeway type run yet, I not even going to guess what the usage will be on Stockton's soft sand :oops: Still, the sound makes it worthwhile, not to mention the looks when a stock looking 21 year old fourby picks up it skirt and goes, Priceless! 8)
I get between 17 and 22l/100km I'd say. I did a test while moving from Sydney to the south coast. Best I got over 200kms was 17l/100km, no load, but aircon always on. Worst was 26/100km, large furniture trailer on the back fully loaded, and the vehicle loaded to the hilt, also with the aircon on. I did this trip quite a few times and these were my figures.
May have to look into the ignition amplifier thing, and also heard some talk about the vacume advance unit.
Full to almost overflowing, takes ages but is accurate. Did a run from Byron to Syd to Byron overa weekend (funeral) and wouldn't habe thought the dear Disco could have done 23mpg, at 110k hot days with aircon going flat out. Filled up at Ballina and got to Raymond Tce where it to on 65 litres,
My previous 3.9 did Syd to Tenterfield before i chickened out and filled, but more was in the tank, runing light and easy at night cold, they're bloody good at speed in the wet!
