    Swivel Hub Help

    Hi All

    Can someone please give me some advice on my swivel hubs, I am restoring my 77 S3 SWB and stArting from the bottom up.

    Please see attached photos of a swivel hub that has a few very small indentations in it, the hubs are not leaking...... Must I replace the hubs, or can I leave these smallImageUploadedByTapatalk1414391866.044772.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1414391886.652460.jpg indentations as is ?

    If they aren't leaking, the they are fine. If you were a but worried, you could fill them with a 2 part metal epoxy and file them back to the swivel profile. I think several here have done that successfully.

    Is there any oil in there at the moment to leak out ?

    The indentations look like rust pits so best to scrape out the rust & seal the hole, Also the seal will get damaged as it crosses the pits.
    As above, use two part epoxy. It worked for me on a Series I and a Series III. The alternative, replacing the swivel hubs, is very expensive.

    As the others said, particularly to check whether there is any oil in them!

    If, as is possible, they have been filled with grease, you probably need to pull them to bits to check for the resulting damage, as grease will not properly lubricate either the top swivel bush or the universal.

    eBay, DLS, swivel housing replacement kit is very reasonably priced and great service,
    Versus farting around dodging it up and fitting a new seal. Then doing it again six months later .

    Can get the hard chrome re done too i used this mob Hardchrome Services - Steering Racks there is even a landy chalice on the front page

    On the S1 in ~1970s had the chrome stripped, filled the pits by silver brazing (VERY fiddly) polished back, re hard chromed. All as a temporary fix as I couldn't afford replacements.
    Still ok now.
    Plating works even gave me a credit for the chrome they recovered. Bet that wouldn't be offered now

    Thanks for your help, yes they are small pit holes, I am stripping the swivels anyway as part of my full rebuild so will use the 2 part epoxy as recommended.
