    300TDi Air-con compressor pulley

Can anyone tell me what's involved in taking the pulley off the front of the air con compressor. Was driving home from work Friday night (never happens on the way to work) 110kph on the Gateway when the serpentine belt fell to bits and dislodged the aircon belt which chewed through the small coolant return hose and the wiring to the aircon. Anyway, $100 worth of belts and some second hand hose later (will replace properly during the week) the car works again but without aircon. Any ideas, links, pictures appreciated.

    Thanks

    A/C belt.

    Pics First:

First of all, you have to take the cover off the top of the a/c compressor, and also loosen the three bolts on the tensioner set up. Ignore how the pic shows it on mine, I was working on the timing belt at the time, and just put it that way so I wouldn't lose it. Anyway, put the new belt on , slide the tensioner around so it holds it in place, then put a 1/2 inch drive rachet in the square hole and tension the belt. Hold it there. Now LR say to use a torque meter to do this, and tension the belt to 35 nm, then do up the bolts to 25nm whilst your holding the belt tension. I figure that if there is some deflection (about 2cm?) when you press on the belt with your hand, then thats about right..others may disagree and say use a torque meter..if you got one. I'll leave it up to you. But generally, hand rotate the crank once or twice (remember to pull the fuel solenoid wire from the back of the injector pump so you don't mistakenly start the engine) and re-check the belt. Then put the main belt back on. Here is the LR diagramme of how it fits

    And that is that

    DISCOCAM AND OTHERS: FORGIVE ME

DISCOCAM & OTHERS: FORGIVE ME, I STUFFED UP...WRONG ANSWER TO QUESTION

As to getting the pulley off to presumably get at the clutch connections, the last time I tried that I used a medium three leg gear puller ( el-cheapo from Supercrap - it worked OK for me). The centre bolt might be a problem though..
Again, apologies for misreading the question

Thanks for the reply Langy. Sorry you went through attaching images etc. I want to get the pulley off to reattach the 2 wires that appear to connect at the front. If it's a case of gear pullers etc I'm thinking it might be a job for the pro's.

    Cheers

I had the same thing happen.

The power supply for the clutch was severed. Fortunately there was just enough cable to reconnect.

I can't remember the details but I didn't need special tools to remove and refit the pulley and clutch. You will need cir-clip pliers.
