I think my 93 Disco came out of the factory that way. When I've had to get Disco parts like hoses etc, the Disco parts don't even get close buy RR parts go straight on, and there's some other weird non Discovery stuff like the rear diff locks up and then there's the sway bars, and well nothing surprises me anymore. And it's original, not aftermarket fiddled with, curious.....

When i comes to this you have to remeber one thing Land Rover are really lazy and will not change anything unless thay have to
I have a 1971 Range Rover which i put all the wheels, dash , front end (grill and spoiler) and interior of a 1993 range rover on
They all went on with out any problem and the holes where allready on my truck to fit it all.

I dont think there would be a problem in changing the parts over, I have used all the elccy innards and door trims off a 95 Disco 2 door for my 89 Rangie front doors and everything fit ok!!

I can tell you from experience that the Disco and Rangie have different chassis.
I bought a second-hand long range tank from a Disco. When I went to fit it, I found the back of the chassis had different crossmembers and the tank wouldn't fit into the Rangie.

The chassis doesn't have a compliance plate on it.
You might be able to cut the RR chassis number out and weld it intot he Disco chassis - not that I'd suggest that. Perhaps replace the "rusted" front part of the Disco chassis with the number with non-rusted chassis section from the Rangie??

While they're all supposed to be the same, no two really are. (opinion and experience only).
My 93 Disco, which is original and stock has things in it that are not Disco, they're RR.
This causes no end of problems when I need things like hoses etc, as my Disco doesn't match the book. A local mechanic took two days to find out the hoses, which all needed doing, were RR, but he was unaware a Disco is related to RR.
It also hates regular unlead, but loves 98. Then there's the rear diff that locks all by itself and the ride height which goes up 2 inches when in low range. It's a weirdy, but factory original...
How about the pads. D elevens are serious stuff, I thought lead pads were not the go these days but they're brilliant, if expensive.
Just think laterally Ron, ther were probably doing the same at the factory. This goes with that etc, good luck.

Ok, an auto locking diff, height adjustable suspension, are you sure you don't have a disco body on Range rover running gear, do you know your VIN and chassis number??

Seems that way, the rear diff locked (a bit like an LSD does) when I took off from the front yard which is grass and paved, one side was on the grass etc. it was in high range road and I thought that's weird, didn't know these had LSD's (the fron doesn't) This was the first clue, then the hoses. Officially my top radiator hose doesn't exist accrding to the hose supplier.
Then when it came to doing the others, uh-oh!
Is there a record of what went down the line all those years ago?
And I wonder would there be any admission to inadvertently making a hybrid.
My theory is that when it (and maybe others) were made that day there was a shortage of Disco chassies or Disco running gear or donks etc, so in order to keep the boys upstairs happy and keep the factory rolling, this one was cobbled up from whatever was around.
Pity they didn't drop in a big engine...
When it was made, this was before the 'new efficiences' of BMW and now Ford. Having worked at times around production lines, nothing surprises me.

When I'm next underneath I'll do some ferreting around and see what serial nos I can find. Yes there's a VIN in the windscreen but the Disco isn't here right now. Thanks for your help and interest.
