NOISY WINDSREEN WIPER MOTOR
G'day Everyone,
The wiper motor in my 84 Rangie is [very]noisey, I recall my Uncle's Series II Landy has a noisy wiper motor too, Is this normal? The rear wiper motor is much quieter. Cheers Scott.

Noisy as in you can hear slack in the mechanism or is it the sound of the motor spinning ?
If it's the slack apart from rebush every pivot not much you can do, install new I guess.
If it's the sound of the motor spinning probably needs a freshen up.
Mine was noisy and very slow. This is for a series but wiper motors are all about the same, just the mechanism that moves the blades differs.
What I did is stuck the power drill in the vice and locked up firm. Disassembled the wiper motor. Fitted the armature into the chuck and firmed that as well before giving it a spin with the drill. Okay poor mans lathe but allowed me to give the commutator a quick clean with some fine emery paper, becuase it was spinning ensured it stayed round.
Cleaned up the rest of the inside of the motor with a good blow of compressed air. Lightly greased up the armature in the right places and reassembled with new brushes. Fast is fast, slow is about medium and the only noise is the slack in the mechanism which over the rest is not hearable. Did you say something ???
Hope this helps 8)

Thanks, from what you said the motor's a bit tired. It seems to get quieter and faster the longer they run. I'll put that one on my 'to do' list! I'll probably break the drought in Sydney....................
Cheers Scott.

Scott, the first thing I would do is lubricate the bushes at the base of the wiper blades. Just slosh some engine oil on them. I did this with my 92 and the gain in speed was amazing.
