Mmmmm, so you are saying or at least some of you, that if I down grade the bulb wattage I will get better visibility not necessarilly light down the road. What I was trying to achieve is plenty light as far ahead as possible for roos and cows in the distance with the lightforce on spot beam and use the ultimas broad beam to fill the road side say 150 m in front of me. Oh yeah, the bullbar is up to the task.
Has anyone tried the combination of two Lightforce lights - one with a spot (ie clear) lens cover and the other with a spread beam cover :?: Theoretically this would be the best combo.
I notice you can now get the Lightfoce covers in blueish tint as well as clear to "whiten" the light output.
The light force spots are adjustable from spot to broad beam just by rotating the lense cover, so you have the best of both worlds ie one of each if you like, on either side as conditions dictate.
I was always under the impression (and it has been my personal experience) that there was always more definition in a light with a yellow tinge and that you lost that defintion as the yellow tinge bled to white.
i find very white light to be next to useless as it has no defintion, ie you cannot judge the depth of ruts, hollows or marginal shapes on the side of the road, and it simply doesnt seem to penetrate as far as light with a yellow tinge, but my vision isnt what it used to be.
me thinks that what light works for you very much depends on ones eyesight.
Hi crump, I had better clear a miss understanding about the Phillips globes. The ones I am referring to are the Phillips Crystal Vision.
These are not a standard type globe but some new tech globe that according to the spiel on the packaging are current rated at 55 watts but put out the equivalent of 110 watts of light.
They are much better for spotting roos an cows because the whiter light gives a much clearer view up front.
They are not cheap, my first set cost $98 but after shopping around I got the next two sets for about $50. The cost is more than made up for by the improved light. The only thing that may dampen my enthusiasm is how long they last. I have yet to blow one but the first set have only been on the rangie for a little over 12 months, I usually get at least 3 years out of driving light globes.

By the way, I tried the Narva Plus 50 globes before trying the Phillips globes and the Narva made no noticeable difference.
Hi incisor, I think these new generation globes are actually blue more so than white but there is a noticeable difference plus something I have noticed since using them, they seam to be easier on the eyes.
There is not so much eye strain after a long nights drive, what may be behind that I don’t know.

Hi incisor, I regularly do an all night drive to Sydney and may be its just getting older or some crap like that but I have noticed that I am not straining to try and make out what an object is as I approach it.
Going to Sydney means that there are only a few areas that roos are a problem, but when I go out west, they can be a big pain and keep you on your toes for hours on end. The light does seam to help but when I go west or north I also have the additional 4 driving lights on the roof so they probably help as well.
There is one down side, even when going to Sydney with just the two driving lights on the bumper, sighting the lights of on coming traffic is harder because the white light seams to cancel out the yellow light of the on coming vehicle and you don’t know a vehicle is coming until it is actually in sight.
This is not with all on coming traffic but you do tend to get a start every so often because I didn’t notice the light of the on coming vehicle, which is one of the main advantages of driving at night.
You know a vehicle is coming way before you get to see it.

Would these CrystalVision gliobes be available in high/low format to replace the standard globes in my Defender headlamps :?:
If so what part number / model number do I need to get, and where can these be purchased from at a reasonable price.
Hi VladTepes, the Rangie has separate high and low beam. Because the low beam is lensed the light is pretty well the same. It might pay you to do a bit of investigating of your own. I was for ever blowing the standard globes in the Rangie and the only advantage I have found with the high tech globes is that, to date I have not had to change one.
