    ABS Fault

I seem to have a problem... my 1999 disco2 has illuminated the abs light and wont turn off. I checked the manual and it said that I need to seek urgent assistance. This is my everyday car and I don't have much cash to go to mechanic as they cost an arm and a leg. Plus the mechanic doesn't know a lot about land rovers.. Is it still driveable? What are the risks if I continue to drive?

Is it just the single ABS light, or do you have three lights on display (ABS, HDC, and TCS)?. If all 3 then google "Discovery Three Amigos" to learn more.

The best case scenario is driving with the warning light on means ABS won't kick in an emergency braking situation which means you will not be able to steer out of trouble and unless you are used to modulating the brakes to unlock the wheels so you can turn then this is not a good thing (let alone implications from an insurance and legal point of view when the fault is found). Worse case is the fault is even more serious.

If it is the "three amigos" then plenty of help available online to fix.

Check when you turn ignition on ll, are the TC and HDC lights working on self test?... cos if yes and you have only the ABS light alone and it doesnt go out when you exceed 15kph i'm affraid it's a SLABS ECU missbehaviour cos there is no such warning in the diagnostic protocol... if those two warnings are missing on self test then it could be a 3 amigos case and the lights were disabled before
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned

Thanks mate. The light dissapeared this morning and I tested it by breaking heavy etc and it kicked in so it must have been a dirty sensor or something. Ive already had the 3 amigos, that was an easy fix. Thanks for your help discodb and sierrafery
