So now I'm a County man

Hi all,

Picked up the Isuzu County I bought from Swazi last night

goes great except on the bigger hills ( needs a turbo and a tidy up ) but when I got home I noticed that the gearbox is a bit noisy at idle with clutch out in neutral - but dead quiet when you push the clutch in.

My old SIII was the same, and the County has reciepts for a gearbox reco 2 years ago, so should I worry?

TIA

Bruce.

its not the gearbox.

it sounds like its only the thrust bearing on the clutch release fork just touching on the clutch pressure plate spring fingers.

there might be a return spring missing of the release fork and its not pulling the fork back enough.

nothing to stress about. if the spring is external.
if its in the bell housing you need to pull the box out

Yep, sounds like a worn thrust bearing to me.

Agree. Defender does exactly the same thing even after gearbox overhaul.

Hmm, I think I can help you out, Bruce. My County has a rip-snorting V8. I'll swap the motor for yours. What a deal!
