Wolf EMS to my Rangie

Hey I have a Wolf Engine Management System ready to install on my 3.5 EFI V8 Rangie.

The first question i have to ask is what sensors do you people suggest i use ? ? ?

Is there anyone local (read Gold Coast area) that has abit of expertise in the installation of these complicated ems systems :?
I am lookin to chop my car into a ute in two weeks time and hopefully get the Wolf installed while its on the blocks

Anyone that feels as if they may be able to help me out please feel free to pm me or call 0432511855

Kind regards
Anthony Parra

After a trip on the weekend , I suggest you use a MAF sensor. Wolf must have a list of compatable sensors.
The reason is that one of the guys had a Motec 4.6 with MAP sensor only. This was professionally set up by Davis.
BUT every time he was idling and using the brakes, on a manual, the engine kept increasing revs, causing him to Kangaroo hop.
I bet that the brakes reduced the inlet vacuum momentarily, and this sent a signal to the ECU via the MAP that load had increased, and so the revs increased.
This requirement is peculiar to 4WD where you want to rock crawl. if you do not do this then do not worry, but your specs seem to suggest that you want to do just that.
Regards Philip A

PhillipA - He must had low crawl ratio to use the break in idle on a manual and it not stall On the street i pressume he never had troubles as the cluth would have been engaged right ? ? ?
Anyways that was helpful - Mine is an auto so shouldnt have as many dramas, I really want to get rid of all the lucas crap so the Air FlowMeter is one of the thing I wanna **** off :? but if i do have troubles setting it upwith out it I may just have to put it back in

There just doesnt seem to be that much help with these aftermarket engine managment systems  maybe thats why they charge so much for installations.....
I cant beleive how uncomplete the actual unit is when they send it to you...... I have no way of programing it (no hand controller) as I was told I could use my laptop, but there is no cord for the laptop to connect to the wolf  .
For the prices they charge for these units I think there should be abit more effort put in to the final product.... but anyways that prob just me ****ty cause i cant install it tommorow and take it for a spin

I have rego to pay ($780 ) and am replacing my tyres with bigger rubber so money at the moment is very tight..... hence why i cant afford to just drive it into a work shop and say 'install'

After I wrote that post I had a look at all the sites, Motec , Wolf etc.
It looks like none of them can use a MAF sensor.
Usually the after market ECUs can be programmed for the characteristics of your existing sensors eg temp sensor at 0 degrees =X ohms etc.
Most OEM ECUs use a MAF sensor. I note that the Wolf has two unused sensor inputs so they may be able to be programmed. Any MAF such as Holden V6 should be able to be programmed.
Whether you could include the burn off cycle is problematic.
Bill on the Range Rover /Discovery forum has recently installed a Wolf, (I think) so maybe ask the question there. He doesn't have a MAF.
On balance it seems probable that you will have to go with a MAP. Did you get one with the Wolf?

Nope its very annoying how incomplete the wol kit is..... the guy told me I dont ned a hand controler and that i can program it with my laptop.... but there is no cable in the kit to connect the lappy to the wolf  So i prob have to buy that.... and I need to go out and get all me sensors aswell and i know nuthing about electrical sensors etc etc ops:

Who here knows this Bill fella that installe dthe wolf? I would realy appreciate sum contact details he may be able to point out the better sensor and any other hicup to look out for.

Cheers
Anthony

Matt, The whole reason i didnt want to pay sumone ot install it is cause i was hoping to get abit more hands on and advice from a fello forumite or just any engine management guru so that I too can learn and help out others who wish to proceed down the same path
I am hoping to be able to diagnose and fault find most electrical faults.... i have to learn and I find that doin it is the only way i learn Reading about stuff never helps me so i need a physical demonstration to kick my brain over

I'm glad I'm going MegaSquirt!!

MegaSquirt has heaps of info that you can probably use for your Wolf situation. The operation is the same, even if the hardware is different.

Have alook at http://www.msefi.com/

You may even be able to use the MegaTune software to tune the Wolf, just ask in the relevant forum

I've helped a mate to do a wolf on an XJ6 Jag. Worked ok they take a bit to tune on the hand controler. I'd never use a hand controler again, laptop is much quicker. A mate of mine has a few spare ecu's and such I think, he at Lawnton in Brisbane.
