Tyres are on and first report

Well just got the vehicle back and went for a quick spin round town and out on the highway. I noticed the extra height as soon as I put the key in the door. The extra two inches is noticeable straight up. The tyres ride suprisingly well no extra noise till you hit 100kph then the slight hum youd expect. Havent tried any emergency stops yet but the tyres feel good and responsive through town. Certainly improved the look of the vehicle out of sight though im hoping the blue colour on the lettering will disappear. The extra stiffness of the side walls has shown me just how crappy my shockies are and theyve been elavated on the must replace list along with a 2 inch lift to help with the snuggness under the guards. I only felt the tyres touch the back of the guard (rear wheel) once on a big bump but im going out there when it cools down to nip the corners on the rear guards anyway which should fix this. Anyway piccys are going up to illustrate the change from the original (205/80R16) to the new (235/85R16). Ohh for those who keep score ive recorded that the starting tread depth from the centre groove is 14.5 mm. Ill keep an eye on the wear pattern and useage of these beasties.

    Hi Mick,

Have you noticed any performance loss with the larger rolling diameter, and did you do a speedo check or comparision to see how much difference there is.

If its not a rude question, what was the damage for the whole 5 tyres.

    Regards Glen.

    G'day Glen
Speedo change is in the vicinity of 11% according to my sources. Im running the tyres at 38psi and the rolling circumference has not had what i would call a noticeable effect on acceleration. A bit more use might give me a better idea though. The damage for the tyres was $320 each fitted. Being in civillization you should be able to shop around for a good price but up here ive got one supplier who does interest free so i had to lump it. Did the tyres on the wifes car as well and got a fairly good price on them
    cheers
    Mick

the blue can be safely cleaned off using some prepsol (wax & grease remover) on a rag and just rub the blue off.

this stuff works on just about the whole car.
remember those stains on the kids seats you couldnt remove?
the grease on the floormats that wouldnt come out?
    etc.

just spray on a bit of this stuff and clean the stains away.

You'll be happy with them, Dad has set on his, they've been around OZ the hard way, done 50k and look about 1/2 worn. He did rip a tread block of one on rocks on the trip, other than that no problems, the damaged one is on the back as the spare.

As Mick says he is a captive customer in his situation plus there would be a freight component in it.

    I've just paid $1400 for a set of 5 but 245 75 16's
