I want one! Citroen has the best suspension (hydropneumatic independent), best steering (rack & pinion full power with centre point geometry) and best brakes (full power inboard disc) and they are all run from the same high-pressure hydraulic system that Citroen has proven for 50 years. Couple that with Land-Rover go-anywhereability and surely you have the ultimate vehicle. I must admit to being biased, as my other car is a 1959 Citroen DS19. I know Jint Nijman, whose website that is, from the DS forums.

Now thats impressive! Buggered if i understand how the citroen suspension works, but i know the Jag stuff. Used to run one in the back of a Holden 1 tonner, a huge improvement in handling 8) What i don't get is how they get the wheel travel without binding up the uni's.

I grew up with Citroens. The old man has owned 11 in all. From a Light 15 through to a BX.

I did 12,000 km in a GS in Europe. A unique and brilliant vehicle.

I was interested to read on that site where the components of the hydropneumatic system were manufactured to .001 mm tolerances 50 years ago and that was crucial to the success of the system.

The marque was doing things then that Land Rover is now reinventingwitout the tolerances I would suggest.

I know this thread is old - like 8 years,
but as good a place as any.

BTW, I love the Series 2 in the original post.

but get a load of this,
may be built from the leftover bits of the Citroen ?

pity its on a Landcruiser,( the original citroen was probably more capable )

I had never been fond of Citroen's but after spending a Scottish winter living with my at the time girlfriends parents house just out of Glasgow i fully appreciated the excellent defrosting/demisting ability and the excellent handling and frugal consumption of a BX19 .
I would dig it out of the snow at the crack of dawn to drive my GF to work and within minutes it was defrosted, warmed and ready to go.
My poor little Fiat Strada was barely warm on the return trip !
GF's dad and i took a trip down to Skipton North Yorks and the BX was a delight to drive.
