I have now blocked off the cold start injector and removed air cleaner to make sure that it is moving freely, cleaned the brand new plugs again, which were very wet with fuel and still no go!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check the quality of the spark from the coil

You should have a good, bright, long spark from your coil.
Good enough to kill you if you have a pacemaker!!!

If it looks weak from there it's going to be terrible at the plugs.

Possible problems are ignition amplifier, connectors at coil/amplifier, coil or sender module in the dissy, in that order.
But first thing I would do is clean ALL your earths on the battery, body and engine, and I mean ALL the earths!!

If the spark is good at the coil but small at the plugs, its dissy cap, rotor button (must be genuine) or leads, in that order.

    Good luck

Thanks everyone so far and I will check all earths tomorrow as I have to go to work now. When it does start it will run at high revs but as soon as I ease off is when it seems to flood then die. Hows this for an idea, could it possibly be the valve that regulates how much pressure is in the rail, if this was faulty would it not squirt in way too much fuel when the injector opens hence flooding the engine? The cold start hose is absolutely rock solid which seems to have way too much pressure in it. What does everyone think?

And that's why most buy landcruiser or patrol, twice as reliable and half as competent suburban off road vehicle.

However I take the alternative route, park the thing up for a week, drive my other vehicle. At the end of the week if I'm calm enough take the time systematically work through the problem... umm I mean 'issue' then I do so or leave it parked there for another week then reassess the situation. Can sit there for a month if I really get annoyed.... cheap on fuel though.

    Yep still thinking electrical.

Matey might be right about a problem with keeping the candles lit. Still doesn't explain overfueling, should still smolder with weak ignition.

Did you find the thermo time switch (TTS) ??? Should be on the thermostat housing near the temp sender unit if it has one. If it (TTS) blows the ECU cannot detect temperature it defaults back to choke, which is pretty much what happens when the water temp is cold. See if you can find it and measure the resistance with a meter.

Throwing money I've found wasn't a solution, if its a daily communter then you might not have the option I do.

    Hi Shane
One way to test the fuel pressure reg is to squeeze the return line to the tank with multi grips.Put a pce of old hose over the line to protect it.If the problem seems to dissapera grab a new reg.

wont squeezing the return line increase pressure in the fuel rail?

you need to check fuel pressure before you spend $dollars$.
install a fuel guage in the system and watch the pressures so you know whats going on.

it does sound like fuel pressure regulator may have gone south from running out of fuel.

unless you didnt actually run out of fuel......may have just happened while you were low on fuel(coincidence)...as you say it has been playing up for a while and slowly getting worse.

Shano that quote sounds about right from Defenderzook as this could all be happening as a result of your fuel pump problems and that might have damaged the regulator???

Unless its your airflow meter but I dought that

I do not think anywhere in this anyone has suggested fitting a new fuel filter. could be blocked. look for cause and effect.
    Low fuel =gunk=blocked filter.
Also I would drain the fuel . It could have a gutful of water, which would sit on the bottom near the fuel pickup regardless of new fuel.
The symptoms do not sound like it but its cheap.

    Gday Philip,
I didn't check the filters, the only reason being that I have 2 pumps each with their own filter, so I thought it would be unlikely that both would be blocked. Then again this is a Rangie so anything is possible!!
Thanks for your input anyway, its good to get feedback on problems!
